Wildcard Entry?

There is a chance even if you do not win or come 2nd in any event to be eligible to compete in the Sweepers Cup in March. Each event is assigned points. Points are based on the number of teams in that event. Every team will earn points based on their results in each of the qualifying events. Points accumulate based on the results and carry over from event to event. The more events you enter, the more the points will accumulate.

Why would there be a Wildcard

Teams gain an entry by winning or coming 2nd in any of the participating events. If a team has already won an entry by a previous event, then the 3rd place team automatically earns the entry. If both the 1st or 2nd place teams have earned an entry then the 3rd place team automatically earns an entry and there is room for a Wildcard team.  Another reason why the Wildcard may be offered is if a team who qualifies loses more than two original players or if they have to withdraw for conflicting schedule reasons. The team with the highest points accumulated in events by the last event will receive a wildcard spot.

Women's Wildcard

There are 8 events and 16 spots in the Sweepers Cup, a wildcard team will be possible if an eligible team has to withdraw, or if the top two teams have already qualified in an earlier event. Teams may enter many of the bonspiels to gain experience and practice and get a sense of the competition they will come up against for the final event.
